Welcome to Pest Demise – Your trusted pest control partner in the Adelaide Hills!
Ant infestations in your home are usually easy to spot, you see ants! In many cases, these ants are nesting outside and entering your home in search of food or moisture. It’s important to sort them out quickly. If not ants can establish your home as a regular feeding and nesting site, making them harder to eliminate over time.
If you’re seeing ants indoors but can’t locate an obvious entry point, it may indicate that they are nesting inside or beneath your home. Common indoor nesting sites include wall voids, roof cavities, and spaces behind cupboards. Identifying the nest may require some investigation before treatment can be applied effectively.
Outdoors, signs of an infestation include small piles of dirt or sand between pavers and visible mounds in the lawn. While these can be unsightly, they actually help identify nest locations, making it easier to target treatment directly at the source.
Across most of Australia, ants are most active during the warmer months. However, in tropical regions, they can be a year-round issue. In cooler climates, ants may still become a problem during winter — especially if they’ve established nests indoors where it’s warm.
While ants are relatively easy to kill with most insecticides, simply spraying the ones you see is rarely enough. We highly recommend contacting Pest Demise if you see visible ants even if just a small portion as they are part of a much larger colony, and unless the nest is treated by Pest Demise, if you spray with common pest spray more ants will quickly take their place.
To achieve long-lasting control, it's important to identify how ants are entering your home and, if possible, locate the nest itself. Once you've determined where they're coming from, using a combination of products will often yield the best results.
If you can find the nest, your chances of full eradication increase significantly. Applying insecticide directly into the nest — ideally using a ready-to-use pump spray — can be highly effective.
However, nests are often difficult to locate or access, especially if they’re inside walls or underground. In these cases, ant baits offer a more reliable, long-term solution. Baits are designed to be carried back to the nest by foraging ants. Once shared with the colony, the bait's slow-acting insecticide eliminates the nest from within — including the queen — ensuring more complete and lasting control.
